What Is an Application? (Magic xpa 3.x)

An application always starts with a single project and can be a single project or a collection of projects. A project is an application unit that constitutes one or more parts of the application. For example, a management application may have the following projects:

  • Human Resources – All objects that handle human resource management

  • Finances – All objects that handle financial management

  • Operations – All objects that handle operational management

  • R&D – All objects that handle production management

A project can also be used to store the same type of objects of the entire application. For example, separate projects can contain the application’s models, data objects, programs, and help screens.

The advantages of using projects for developing an application are:

  • Reusability – Projects can be reused for different applications.

  • Maintenance – Separate departments can maintain different projects of the same application.

  • Distributed Development – Separate departments can work on different projects of the same application.
