Description

Using Multilingual Support at Runtime (Magic xpa 3.x)

The contents of the following texts will be translated automatically at Runtime using the Language Translation file:

  • Controls' Text property

  • Button’s Format property

  • Entry Name column in the Menu repository

  • Prompt type help screen's Text property

  • Verify operation's Text property

  • Forms' Form Name property

  • Field Names text

  • Index Names text

  • Index Segment Names text

  • I/O Output File Names text

  • Choice controls' (radio button, combo box, list, tab) Display List property

  • Runtime error messages (see below for additional information)

The actual data value used to set the active selection will remain as defined in the project, regardless of the displayed translation string.

During development, all operations that check the size of text in controls (Fit size, APG on variable), create the control according to the original size of the text and not according to the translated size of the text.

When using translation text for choice controls, make sure the number of options in the translated text is exactly as the number of options in the original text. Failure to do so may cause unpredictable results.

Runtime Error Messages

Since version: 3.0

The Runtime error messages are stored in the support folder in files named msg_rnt.xxx (where xxx is the language).

For backward compatibility:

  • If you use your own ini file and you want to see the translated Runtime messages, you need to define a language in the environment settings that point to the required mls file.

  • If your application already uses a translation file, you can add the strings from the msg_rnt.xxx file to your translation file.
