Description

Upgrading from eDeveloper V10.1 or uniPaaS V1.x through V2.0x to Magic xpa 3.x (Magic xpa 3.x)

Note:

Before beginning the upgrade process, it is recommended to use the Magic xpa .ini file and not the old .ini file. Remember to copy all of the relevant sections from the old .ini into the Magic xpa .ini, including the Databases, Logical Names, Magic Defaults and Special Settings section.

When you open an eDeveloper V10.1 or uniPaaS V1.x-V2.0x in Magic xpa, the Upgrade Wizard automatically upgrades your project. The wizard works on eDeveloper V10.1 or uniPaaS V1.0 and above, but it is highly recommended to use it from the latest uniPaaS 1.9 version.

Before upgrading a project, you need to upgrade its components and then create a new ECF of the upgraded component. This is important since the project may use models from a component and they must be upgraded first.

If the project uses version control, the project will be checked out automatically during the upgrade process. Make sure that no files are checked out by other users.

After a project has been upgraded, it will no longer be possible to edit or run the project in previous versions.

After clicking Next from the Welcome screen, you will be asked if you want to create a backup of the project.

After clicking Next, the Configuration screens will open. Here you can select to:

  • Convert labels on the column title into the Column Title value. When selected, Label controls will be removed from the column title area. Their value will be moved to the Column Title property.

  • Convert Edit controls with an expression on the column title into the Column Title expression. When selected, Edit controls with an expression will be removed from the column title area. Their expression will be moved to the Column Title expression.

  • Create Table titles. When selected, a title will be added to Table controls that do not have a title, so that the labels will be moved to the Column Title property.

  • Set the Display Name value according to the column's title. When selected, the Display Name property of variables in a Table control will be updated with the Column Title value. In the Range screen, you will see this value instead of the variable name.

  • Create new colors to maintain the original appearance. When selected, new colors will be created with the system color used in previous versions.

  • Create new fonts to replace non-True Type fonts. When selected, new fonts will be created to replace non-True Type fonts assigned to controls.

  • Create a context menu for RTF controls and assign it to the controls. When selected, a menu with RTF actions will be created and assigned to RTF Edit controls.

  • Create an OK user event and use it instead of the internal OK event. When selected, a new OK user event will be created. All uses of the OK internal event will be replaced with the new OK user event.

  • Add reference to the end-user functionality component. When selected, a reference to the end-user functionality component will be added to the project.

During the upgrade process, a file named imp.log, containing all of the changes made in your project will be created in the project folder. The content of this file is read later on and displayed in the Upgrade Manager utility.

When the process finishes, you can indicate that you want to launch the Upgrade Manager utility when the wizard is closed.

There are a number of considerations when migrating Web services.
