If I stop the Magic subsystem and try to reconnect from Magic xpi to DB2400, why do I get the error “Error 9805: There is no connection to SQL database manager. No SQL error returned.”? The second attempt works.

A

This is the expected behavior. Killing the MGCLIENT job will result in a need to reconnect. This can only happen after the engine has realized that the connection has been killed.
