Splitting the One Server License Amongst Two or More Servers (Magic xpa 3.x)

Objective

This Technical Note explains whether it is possible to split one server license amongst two or more servers.

Description

Based on the new license policy document, Server licenses are host ID protected.

So, is it possible to spilt the one server license amongst two or more servers, using maxconncurrentuser/request?

Solution

It is not possible to split the server license (protected with a host ID) to run on different servers.

At this point, Magic does not offer license server support, so each license should include the host ID of the server in which it will run on, no matter where the license file is stored.

The license can be placed on any accessible machine. (It can also be defined via UNC.)

So, Magic requires re-registering with the server host ID to deploy.

For example, let's say you have a 10 user server license deployed for server A, and want to share the same license on server B for 5 users. It is not possible to use the maxconcurrentusers=5 parameter instead. You should ask your local Magic Software representative to split the license into two licenses and you have to re-register each license separately with the host ID of the server it is deployed on.
