Repository Manipulations (Magic xpa 3.x)

A repository is Magic xpa’s basic screen. Each Magic xpa repository is divided into a grid, similar to a spreadsheet. Every repository has columns and rows. From certain columns, you can zoom to an option list or a details window to select data options. When the insertion point is positioned on a zoomable field, the word ZOOM appears on the message line.

You can type a data option directly into a field rather than selecting it from a list. The insertion point shows where the next text character will be placed.

Some lists contain Magic xpa’s predetermined options. Other lists are created from your entries in regular Magic xpa repositories, to remind you of those entries when they are needed to complete another entry in a subsequent repository. Double-click on the appropriate cell to access that cell’s selection list.

Entering Text

If you want to enter text or numbers directly into a cell rather than copy them from a list, just start typing. The insertion point will show where your next text character will be placed.

Editing Columns

Whenever the insertion point is positioned on a column that you can edit, you activate the Magic xpa editor when you start typing. While you are editing, use the ARROW keys or the mouse to move the insertion point around the column.

Some columns are wider than they appear when displayed. When you park on one of these columns:

Wide column support is automatically enabled, and the WIDE indicator shows in the message line. Click the WIDE indicator or select Edit/Wide, F6, to open a wide window. The wide window shows as a drop down window next to the column.
Note that the full column size can be entered either directly in the column, or in the wide window. If the visible column is not large enough to display its contents, the contents will scroll automatically. Opening the wide window will allow you to see the entire contents of the column as it is being entered.
