Prerequisites (Magic xpa 3.x)

Before you attempt to install any Magic xpa for IBM i component, check that you have all of the required components for successful installation. The components include:

  • OS i 6.1, OS i 7.1, or OS i 7.2.

    Note: OS/400 V6.1 is no longer supported by IBM. Magic xpa Server for IBM i 3.1 can be run on OS/400 6.1; however, official MSE product support for 6.1 is not provided.

  • OS/400 Portable App Solutions Environment (PASE) – IBM License program

  • 5761SS1 option 33 6.1

    The Magic xpa Release Notes lists the latest CUMULATIVE FTP PACKAGE that is recommended for use.

  • 5722JV1 option 33 7.1

  • 770SS1 option 33 7.2 CUMULATIVE PTF PACKAGE C4101720 or later

  • IBM Java License program (see Java Requirements)

  • TCP/IP configuration for IBM i

  • TCP/IP Interface must be Active

  • Local Host name must be defined in the host table entries

  • Domain Name must be configured

  • Domain Name must be added to host table entries

  • Easycom Host Library: Host 1.3 for OS i 6.1 and 7.1; Host 1.4 for OS i 6.1, 7.1 and 7.2

  • The User profile that will be used by the MGSERVER and MGBROKER jobs must have *RWX rights for most of the IFS directories in the Magic xpa 3.1 installation. After the installation, it can be set using the following commands:

CHGAUT OBJ('/MAGICXPA31') USER(USERPR) DTAAUT(*RWX) OBJAUT(*ALL) SUBTREE(*ALL)

where USERPRF is a user name or user group profile that will be used for running the server jobs and MAGICXPA31 is the server directory.

  • When using the printing functionality of Magic xpa server for IBM i, make sure that the CCSID property of the user profile that runs the engine is not set to 65535. No output will be produced if you work with that CCSID.

  • When using graphical fields (Unicode) in your application, make sure that the user profile of the MGCLIENT job is not set to 65535.

  • Permanent or Evaluation License PAK
