Pop-up Windows (Magic xpa 3.x)

Pop-up windows can be used to display or edit additional information or to display selection lists or other utilities, such as a calendar.

Selecting Items

In almost every application, users need to select items from lists of available items. There are two major ways to provide a selection: a choice control that can be static or dynamic, and a pop-up window with a selection list.

Data Control – Data fields selected from a selection table can be set as a choice control to reduce the need for server-side re-computation a link. When dealing with a relatively small item list, a choice control is the preferred solution.

Selection List – If the item list is long, or the field from which a selection needs to be made is modified usually once per record, it is best to use a pop-up window with a selection list.

A selection list task should be set to be a modal task. It is essential that the flow of the parent task only continues after the selection is made and the selection list task has been closed.

Note:

A selection list is also a data display task. The recommendations provided in Displaying and Updating Data section, should be considered for selection list tasks as well.
