OS/400 Utility Menu (Magic xpa 3.x)

With the OS/400 Utility menu, you can perform various tasks related to OS/400 and the Magic xpa jobs running on IBM i System.

The OS/400 Utility Menu options are:

  • Printer Displays the Work with All Spooled Files screen. Next to the selected file, enter Option 9, Display Print Status.
    The MAGICPRTF print file lets the Magic xpa enterprise server program can work with native IBM i printers. To print to printers attached to a PC or a LAN, go to Magic xpa’s I/O repository and change your I/O setting to Print to File. The file will be put in the user’s current directory and will contain a PC printer data stream. This file can be routed to the PC or a LAN printer by means of an IBM i utility, a TCP/IP utility, or a PC-based utility using a network drive mapping to the IBM i Integrated File System.

  • Work with Active Jobs Displays the current job’s performance and status, as well as information for jobs that are currently active on the system.

  • Working with Submitted Jobs Displays the job names and status information of jobs submitted at a work station by another job or by a user.

  • Display QSYSOPR Messages Displays messages sent to a QSYSOPR message queue. Among the parameters shown are the message queue name, delivery mode, and break handling program.

  • Command Line Displays the IBM i command line, so that system commands may be entered from the command line.

  • PASE Environment Developers familiar with the UNIX operating system can use the Magic xpa enterprise server on IBM i through the PASE interface, which is actually an IBM AIX operating system. From the IBM i Utility menu, choose PASE to enter the UNIX shell on IBM i. This option is used for running the Magic xpa Command Line Requester:

  • Run the command below to initialize the Magic xpa enterprise server in the PASE environment:
    . ./.profile

  • Run the broker/mgrqcmdl command in the shell to access all options of the Command Line requester on IBM i.
