Importing File Definitions into Magic xpa (Magic xpa 3.x)

The Get Definition utility is the same as for all databases in Magic xpa, including the AS400 gateway.

Importing One File Definition

To import a file definition into Magic xpa:

  1. Go to the Data repository (Shift+F2) and create a new row.

  2. Enter a name for the data source that will be used in Magic xpa. This can be any name.

  3. In the Data source name column, enter the existing IBM i file name.

  4. From the Database column, press F5 and select the IBM i Library that contains the data source you want to import.

  5. Open the Options menu and select Get Definition.

Importing a Number of File Definitions

To import a number of file definitions:

  1. From the Data repository, park the cursor on the top of the repository.

  2. From the Options menu, select Get Definition to open the Load Data Source Definition dialog box.

  3. From the Database field, press F5 to select the database that you want to get the file definition from.

  4. From the Tag data sources parameter, choose All or Several. All retrieves all the files in the library and Several lets you select the files you want by pressing the space bar while the Database list is open.
