Fonts Settings (Magic xpa 3.x)

There are three different Font repositories (each appearing as a separate tab):

  • The Application Font repository includes all explicitly used fonts. You can add new entries, which can be deleted or renamed.

  • The Runtime Internal Font repository includes fonts that are used at runtime to display built-in screens, such as the environment setting dialog boxes and the Range/Locate dialog boxes. Like the Studio Font repository, you cannot add new fonts and you cannot rename existing fonts. However, the entries font settings can be modified.

  • The Studio Font repository includes only the fonts that affect the Studio screens. The developer cannot add new fonts and cannot rename existing fonts. However, the entries' font settings can be modified.

Fonts associate specific fonts to each kind of output available. Fonts contain 100 entries, including preassigned font definitions, such as Default Table Edit, Default Dialog Text, Push Button, and Status Line Text. The bulk of the entries in Fonts are for User Defined Font assignments. The Font repository can store an unlimited number of font values.

Fonts are stored in the Font Definition files specified in the External tab of the Environment dialog box.

The Font repositories include the following columns:

Property

Description

#

The color identifier (#) used in the project. Magic xpa sets this column automatically.

Name

A textual description of the font’s usage. Specify meaningful font names for ease of selection and maintenance. You can change this description by simply typing over the name.

Font

The name of the font, such as MS Sans Serif or Helvetica. You can change the font by double-clicking on it. This will open a font assignment window You can select a font type, style, and size, and Strikeout and Underline effects.

Note: For controls, Magic xpa supports TrueType fonts and some OpenType fonts. If you use a non-supported or non-installed font, the Microsoft Sans Serif font will be used. For forms, non-TrueType fonts are also supported (Since version: 3.1).

Style

If the font style is either Bold or Italic, or both, and if Strikeout or Underscore effects are selected, these conditions are noted in the Style column.

Size

The typeface size. Zoom from the Font column to the Font assignment window to select a font and determine the font size (in points).

Orient

Font orientation is supported for the following on a Windows desktop:

  • Label controls

  • Column headers

  • Tab controls with the following settings: Title Color<>0, Tabs Width = Fixed or Fixed In Line and Tab Control Side = Left/Right

Note: For Tab Control Side = Left/Right with a default color or a Tabs Width other than Fixed or Fixed In Line, the orientation is done automatically.

Since version: 2.4 (Tab control support – since version: 3.1)

Sample

A visual representation of the selected font.

From the Font repository, press Enter to accept the changes and to end the Fonts editing session. The font settings you edit are saved in a Fonts Definition table. The file Magic xpa uses is set in the Font Definition files in the Environment dialog box. You can create and use various different font files. On conclusion of an editing session in Fonts, Magic xpa prompts you to save the changes with the Save As dialog box.

From the Form Designer, you open the Font repository as a selection list where you can create, modify and delete fonts by using the buttons at the bottom of the repository. The Delete button is enabled for the last entry in the list. Since version: 3.1
