Defining Current IBM i Files in Magic xpa (Magic xpa 3.x)

Load Data Source Definition

You can download an IBM i file structure to Magic xpa by using the Load Data Source Definition utility.

To download current IBM i files:

  1. From the Project menu, click Data to open the Data repository in your project.

  2. Position the cursor above the first line of the data source.

  3. From the Options menu, click Get Definition to open the Load Data Source Definition dialog box.

  4. In the Load Data Source Definition dialog box, zoom from the Database parameter to the Database list, and select a database.

  5. In the Tag Data Sources parameter, select All to load all the database tables, or Several to open the Data Source Selection list.

  6. To select a data source for loading, highlight the data source and press the spacebar to enter a V in the Select parameter.

The spacebar acts as a toggle. Pressing the spacebar on a data source entry already marked with a V will remove the V.

  7. Press ENTER or click Select to return to the Load Data Source Definition dialog box. Click OK, and Magic xpa automatically loads the definitions of the marked data sources into the Data repository.

To select a specific table from the IBM i database:

  1. From the Data repository, create a new line and leave the Name parameter blank.

  2. In the Data Source Name column, enter the name of the table and zoom from the Database column to select the database that contains the data source.

  3. While keeping the cursor on this entry, open the Options menu and select Get Definition. Magic xpa automatically downloads the definition of the table from the IBM i database into Magic xpa’s Data repository.

By default, the file structure downloaded from IBM i cannot be changed in Magic xpa. This safety feature can be turned off by removing the TYPE=XX keyword from the Information for SQL Database parameter on the SQL tab of the Data Source Properties dialog box.
