Configuring the TCP/IP Host (Magic xpa 3.x)

Once you have completed the Host Library installation, the configuration on IBM i will have:

  1. A new subsystem description named MAGIC in the Host Library.

  2. The MAGIC subsystem automatically set to start the Magic xpa for IBM i daemon.

  3. The system set to automatically start the MAGIC subsystem at system startup.

It is advisable to accept this default behavior. However, you can change this configuration by running the IBM i CFGTCPMGC command using a terminal or a terminal emulator, as shown below.

To change the default setting:

  1. Change the current library by typing CHGCURLIB MAGIC400, substituting the name of your Magic xpa Host library for MAGIC400, and press ENTER (assuming you used the default name - MAGIC400).

  2. To configure TCP for Magic xpa, type CFGTCPMGC and press F4.

  3. Fill in the fields as required, and press ENTER.

The system will be configured to use the new values. If the default of AUTOSTART(*YES) was accepted, the MAGIC subsystem and daemon will automatically start the next time the system performs an Initial Program Load (IPL).

Configuring the Host for the SQL Gateway

If you are planning to use the SQL Gateway for IBM i, after installing the Host you must run the UPDPGM PGM(MAGIC400/EASYCOM) MODULE(MAGIC400/SQL2)command.
